LMYC Trophies and Awards

“Cap” Gwathney Award

The award is a silver wine bucket given in memory of one of the Club’s earliest and most colorful members and presented annually at the Commodore’s Ball to the member who has given outstanding service to the Club.  The recipient is decided by the Flag Officers (or a committee appointed by them) and is kept a secret until the night of the Ball.  (The recipient uses it at home until the month before the Ball when it is returned to the Clubhouse.)

Cruisin’, Snoozin’, Boozin’ Award – RETIRED

This is a plaque presented annually at the Commodore’s Ball to any member who has cruised, snoozed and boozed during the year.  The member must present himself before the membership as a worthy recipient, and once declared the candidate/candidates campaign for 60 days.  (Some have put out flyers; others have chosen cheerleaders, etc. etc.)

The election is held at the Club the month before the Ball at the monthly social.  The polling place is the Ladies Restroom and each member votes by secret ballot.  The Flag Officers keep the result a secret until the plaque is presented at the Commodore’s Ball.  (This even has been fun!)

Bent Cleat Award

This is a bent cleat on a base and is the award members have found to be the “fun” award.  It is a traveling trophy and is presented at any time to any member who has “goofed up” while on the water.  The member in possession of the award obviously wants to get rid of it, so he/she is on the alert for the next person to be nominated.  The award is announced at a monthly social and presented to the most recent “goof-up”!
