Ahoy To All Sailors

This is the first alert for the LMYC Triangle Gulf Race Scheduled

for February 4th 2012…

The Skippers meeting is scheduled for “09:00 hrs,” at the LMYC house.

Those wanting to crew please be present at the Skippers meeting

There has been a concern raised about the Race being on Super Bowl Day. The Super Bowl is on Sunday February 5th, 2012 and there is no race scheduled for Sunday…..!

There will be a ready horn sounded at 12:50 hrs by Fleet Captain Wes Thom.

Race Start is a GPS start at 1:00 PM- at the SPI Jetties Buoys.

The Gulf Triangle Race Course will go from the SPI Jetties to the Yellow Fish Buoy continuing to the Yellow Gas Rig Buoy around the Brazos Santiago Buoy and return to the SPI Jetties finish line. All Skippers are to note your GPS finish time and provide it to the Fleet Captain.

“Skippers will be asked to complete the “2012″ LMYC waivers for all personnel racing in LMYC sponsored races both adult and Youth. Captain Ekstrom the LMYC Safety officer will provide and collect completed waiver copies as well as Skippers attest to his vessel having liability coverage. These waivers will remain in effect for a year-any changes are the responsibility of the Skipper to promptly add or delete crew members or changes in Liability coverage. Liability insurance is a LMYC requirement for all vessels participating in LMYC sponsored races.”

NOTICE 2012 LMYC Training session begins

Our first training session covers Coastal/Local Navigation with important techniques and skills to successfully make your way through local waters with increasing accuracy and minimal unplanned visits to mother earth. Mr. Jim Godfrey requested deferring his participation to the future pending some health related concerns. Therefore, we will be present and ready with an amended version. Saturday’s program will not last for six hours.

We will start at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21st. at LMYC.

Lunch will be up to the attendees. We should finish by noon.

There will be a team of presenters covering several topics such as:

1. Local knowledge and charts
2. Dead Reckoning.
3. Navigation by depth sounder and radar.
4. Set and drift.
5. Buoys and Lights
6. Range Marks and reading the chart
7. 60 D ST
8. Charts and Planning
9. Bearings vs Headings.
10. Navigation at night and in close quarters.
11. Sound and light
12. Barges and traffic
13. Online and Print Resources

Please bring your local charts. This is a timely session given the events in Italy last week. I recognize we can’t cover these topics in a comprehensive manner in just two hours but we can make it as useful and focused as we can.
